Whatever happened to Sodom & Gomorrah?

Today’s news articles tend to show that Gays are gaining
some acceptance and many people in the world today tend
to believe that Homosexual people are just as entitled to the
benefits, respect and rights that normal people enjoy. It appears
that being Gay is gradually gaining respectability as a life style.

Lance Bass, the former ‘N Sync heartthrob, reveals that
he is gay in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

People have, indeed, been duped, mostly by the insistence of the
Gay community, into believing that being Gay is an “alternative life
style”, so many liberal people accept this perversion. Laws have
even been enacted in many countries to give Gays the priveleges
they want – such as marriage.

Elton John

Elton John, 58, and longtime partner David Furnish, 43,
were married Wednesday in England, at Windsor’s town
hall, where Prince Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles
in April.

George Michael

George Michael, 42, has announced his plans to marry longtime
partner Kenny Goss, 47. The two, who have been a couple for
nearly ten years, plan to hold a ceremony early next year.

But what does God think about it?

Sodom and Gomorrah – Examples for Today

“Do you remember about the cities of Sodom and
Gomorrah and the towns around them? The people
in those cities did the same things. They were full
of sex sins and strong desires for sinful acts of the
body. Those cities were destroyed by fire…”
(Jude 1:7) (NLV)

The sad truth is that most people do not remember or
they merely believe that the story is a fable. Yet the
Bible has many references to Sodom and Gomorrah
throughout. We just have to know where to look for them.

24 Then the LORD rained down fire and burning sulfur from
the heavens on Sodom and Gomorrah. 25 He utterly destroyed
them, along with the other cities and villages of the plain,
eliminating all life–people, plants, and animals alike.
(Genesis 19:24-25) (NLT)

“God said that the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah
were guilty, and He destroyed them with fire. This
was to show people who did not worship God what
would happen to them.”
(2Peter 2:6) (NLV)

“All these events happened to them as examples for us.
They were written down to warn us, who live at the time
when this age is drawing to a close.”
(1Corinthians 10:11) (NLT)

But that would be right now! These words penned almost
two thousand years ago apply to us, the people living at a
most unusual time, a time when an old era is coming to a
close and a new era is about to begin. An era where the
perversions being tolerated now by the populace will be
summarily wiped away.

But who is going to do that?

None other than God’s Son, himself!

“But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down
from heaven and destroyed them all. It will be just like
this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.”
(Luke 17:29-30) (NIV)

“I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom
on the day of judgment than for you.”
(Matthew 11:24) (NIV)

“Yes, I’m telling you these things now, so that when
they happen, you will remember I warned you.”
(John 16:4) (NLT)

But who says that being Gay is a bad thing?

God Says So!

22 “Do not practice homosexuality; it is a detestable sin.
(Leviticus 18:22) (NLT)

What else does the Bible say about it?

9 Don’t you know that those who do wrong will have no
share in the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves.
Those who indulge in sexual sin, who are idol worshipers,
adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals10 thieves,
greedy people, drunkards, abusers, and swindlers–none
of these will have a share in the Kingdom of God.
(1Corinthians 6:9-10) (NIV)

“…The Lord will punish men for all such sins,
as we have already told you and warned you.”
(1Thessalonians 4:6) (NIV)

History Repeats Itself

The story of Sodom and Gomorrah has long been viewed
by many as a legend. Critics assume that it was created
to communicate moral principles. However, throughout the
Bible this story is treated as a historical event.

What has archaeology found to establish the existence of these cities?

Archaeologists have searched the Dead Sea region
for many years in search of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Genesis 14:3 gives their location as the Valley
of Siddim known as the Salt Sea, another name for
the Dead Sea.

In 1924, renowned archaeologist Dr. William Albright
excavated at this site, searching for Sodom and
Gomorrah and he discovered one of them. Although
he connected this city with one of the biblical
“Cities of the Plains,” he could not find conclusive
evidence to justify this assumption.

More digging was done in 1965, 1967, and 1973. The
archaeologists discovered a 23-inch thick wall around
the city, along with numerous houses and a large temple.

Are the Moral Conditions on The Earth Today Any Different?

Many practice evil and appear to be getting away with it.
As a result – some people have been lulled into a false
sense of security regarding punishment. They think that
they will never reap what they sow.

But what does the Bible say?

7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked.
A man reaps what he sows.
(Galatians 6:7) (NIV)

“Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily,
therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.”
(Ecclesiastes 8:11) (ASV)

“I, Jehovah, search the mind, I try the heart, even to give every
man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”
(Jeremiah 17:10) (ASV)

“…Ye shall not be unpunished; for I will call for a sword upon
all the inhabitants of the earth, saith Jehovah of hosts…”
(Jeremiah 25:29) (ASV)

Our Messiah has been appointed by Jehovah God
to execute justice on the earth.

“In the past, he let all nations go their own way.”
(Acts 14:16) (NASB)

And that is exactly what is wrong with the world now.

What is God going to do about it?

“In the past God overlooked such ignorance,
but now he commands all people everywhere
to repent. For he has set a day when he will
judge the world with justice by the man he has
appointed. He has given proof of this to all men
by raising him from the dead.”
(Acts 17:30,31) (NIV)

“For evil-doers shall be cut off; But those that
wait for Jehovah, they shall inherit the earth.
For just a little while longer, and the wicked
ones shall be no more: Yea, thou shalt diligently
consider his place, and he shall not be. But the
meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight
themselves in the abundance of peace… The
righteous shall inherit the earth, And dwell therein
for ever… Wait for Jehovah, and keep his way,
And he will exalt thee to inherit the earth; When
the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.”
(Psalm 37:9-11,29,34) (ASV)

“For the upright shall dwell in the earth, And the
righteous shall remain in it. But the wicked shall
be cut off from the earth, And the treacherous
shall be rooted out of it
(Proverbs 2:21,22)

A Warning For the “Last Days”

4 I say this because some godless people have
wormed their way in among you, saying that
God’s forgiveness allows us to live immoral
. The fate of such people was determined
long ago, for they have turned against our only
Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
(Jude 1:4) (NLT)
